[Description]
[Description] Seeing the great need for light on the doctrine of
sanctification, or holiness of heart, this pamphlet is being sent
forthtrusting that it may be made a blessing to all who are seeking a closer
walk with God. We realize however, there is no reference made to the recent
outpouring of the Holy Spirit in the latter rain, and that the writing is
lacking the added illumination on the baptism of the Holy Ghost as revealed
in this great visitation, on account of antedating this event, yet we believe
it to contain much valuable truth on the vital subject of holiness which
shall bring rich blessings to all of God's children, especially those just
entering their spiritual Canaan.
[Description]
[Description] This series of articles has been prepared in the form of
letters. They were at first written to a real person who questioned thefact
as to whether the writer had ever entered Canaan. They are issued in this
form in order to give light to others besides those who may already be
familiar with the truths they embody.

[Description] A close look at some of God's faithful people of the
Pentecostal Holiness Church will challenge you and lead you to be responsive
to the call which each one heard. They were not disobedient to their
Heavenly vision and call. As, one by one, they step out and speak to you and
me, let us listen to each story. Then arise, go forth, and do likewise.

[Description] Nearly 20 centuries have lapsed since the early church began
its mission in the First Century. Because our generation is so far removed
from these New Testament times it is often difficult to adjust our thinkng so
as to keep from viewing the Apostles and their contemporaries as a race of
super men instead of the just ordinary men who were God-possessed. Actually
they had no power of their own (Acts 3:12). They exercised or possessed only
delegated power, given to them because they had given themselves to God.

[Description] God called men and women of the Pentecostal Holiness Church
have played a great part in spreading the fundamental doctrines of the Bible
to the races of Southern Africa. Only eternity will reveal the impact
theteachings of our faithful missionaries and ministers have had in their
questfor souls.
[Description]
[Description] It must be clearly understood, what the missionaries and
ministers in South Africa have accomplished has been made possible by the
faithful help and backing of our General Official Board, and then theGeneral
Board of Administration, Foreign Mission Board, and later the Home Missions
Board. It was because of the deep conviction and spirit of sacrifice, and
the faithful members of our church response with sacrificial giving and
fervent prayer we can today count our members in thousands, and our adherents
in tens of thousands.
[Description]
[Description] With this in view, we would like to give the reader an insight
into our work, and tell you something of our missionaries, and above all,how
God has led them into new fields in wonderful ways.
[Description]
[Description] It is with regret I do not have pictures of all the
missionaries that have worked on the African mission field. I once wrote all
the missionaries that had served on the African Field to send their
pictures, some never sent them in.

where to kindle the Holy fire of His Spirit in our United States. Like a
tornado, the physical counterpart of the "rushing might wind" of Acts, this
wind circulated the Pentecostal experience from Topeka into Houston and
LosAngeles. From there, the fires of Pentecost were spread by His prevailing
westerlies from the Pacific Ocean on the West Coast, eastward across this
continent, still bounding, ever swirling until they reached the Atlantic
Ocean on the rock-bound coast of Maine!

[Title] Speaking in Tongues - A Guide to Research on Glossolalia
[Publisher] William B. Eerdmans Publishing Company
[Pub Location] Grand Rapids, Michigan
[Date] 1986
[Location] Closed Stacks
[Description] A considerable disruption occurred in mainline Christendom in
the 1960s and 1970s. It was caused, in part, by a dispute of the controversy
was a practice known as glossolalia, or speaking in tongues. Participants
defended the practice as necessary and essential to the Christian faith,
while opponents with equal vigor, rejected the phenomenonas esoteric and
meaningless.
[Description]
[Description] It was not until the debate about the usefulness of tongues
subsided that researchers were motivated to put the phenomenon under the
microscope and examine it as they would any other phenomenon in the range of
regligious experience.
[Description]
[Description] In this volume, Watson E. Mills brings together representative
examples from five different methodological approaches that have emerged in
the last quarter century of research on glossolalia: the exegetical model,
the historical socio-cultural model. The attempt there is not to advocate a
personal or theological position regarding glossolalia, but rather to explore
the available methods for evaluating this phenomenon so that a clearer
understanding of its nature and essence will emerge for both those who
participate and those who do not.

[Title] A Historical Account of the Apostolic Faith
[Publisher] The Apostolic Faith Publishing House
[Pub Location] Portland, Oregon
[Date] 1965
[Subjects] Church History
[Subjects] Apostolic Faith
[Description] In response to the many and varied inquiries concerning the
Apostolic Faith, a world-wide evangelistic movement, this informative and
historical account is published.
[Description]
[Description] This book, threefold in purpose, is designed to introduce the
Apostolic Faith to those unfamiliar with the denomination, to give
reminiscent reading pleasure to the veteran members of the church, and to
challenge a growing army of Christian youth to action.
[Description]
[Description] The account opens with a presentation of the organization as it
functions today, then flashes back to the early history of Christianity,
tracing the doctrinal heritage of the church through the centuries, and leads
on to the founding, pioneering, growth and progress of the Apostolic Faith
with headquarters in Portland, Oregon, USA.
[Description]
[Description] A survey of all the different phases of evangelism shows the
wide range of activities carried on by this church. The work of each
department is individually summarized from the time of its beginning to the
present day.
[Description]
[Description] Most of the material used in this publication has been taken
from the Headquarters' files, some of which was compiled by Reverend Florence
L. Crawford, founder of this organisation. The editing of this work has been
done by veteran members of the church office staff.
[Description]
[Description] The founder's son, the Reverend Raymond Robert Crawford,
present General Overseer, who was an eye witness to many of the outstanding
incidents, gives parts of the history in his own words.
[Description]
[Description] The final chapter of the book is devoted to a vital message
given by Mr. Crawford. No attempt has been made to place all events strictly
in chronological order or to fully treat every factor regarding the origin
and growth of the work; neither has it been possible to give honorable
mention of all to whom credit is due.
[Description]
[Description] Effort has been made to verify all information contained in
this account. However, if any misstatement has been made the publishers
apologize for the error.
[Description]
[Description] It is the prayer of all who have contributed to this history
that the Spirit of God will quicken the words contained herein and arouse
within the heart of the younger generation a readiness to declare the Gospel
of Christ with the same enthusiasm, courage and fortitude as did their
predecessors who so valiantly endeavored to fulfill the Great Commission
given by Christ: "Go ye into all the wolrd, and preach the gospel to every
creature" (Mark 16:15).

[Publisher] Advocate Press
[Pub Location] Franklin Springs, GA
[Date] 1986

[Description] Few individuals have the privilege of writing the history of
an institution that has greatly shaped their own life and world view. For
me, the Pentecostal Holiness Church has been my life and sustenance since my
birth. Only five of my 38 years were sustained by income from sources
outside the church. My father was a Pentecostal Holiness preacher a dozen
years before my birth, and all my life has been entwined in the life and work
of the church. From childhood, I have had an interest in the doctrines and
structure of the movement. For most of my adult life, my father has served
as Bishop and General Superintendent. The history of the church has
therefore held more than merely academic interest for me.
[Description]
[Description] Because of this personal involvement, much of the knowledge and
many of the insights of this book came from firsthand experience gained from
table-talk in the Bishop's home, and in actual participation in some of the
more recent events of the church's history. The latter stages of the work
were especially fascinating to describe, and yet, extremely difficult to
write, constituting as they did, bitter and sweet personal memories.
[Description]
[Description] The Old-Time Power is a book commissioned by the General
Executive Board of the Pentecostal Holiness Church in 1967, and represents an
attempt by a son of the church, who has dedicated himself to the study and
teaching of history, to contribute whatever talents he possesses to the
growth and development of his church.
[Description]
[Description] The title, The Old-Time Power, came after much searching as the
phrase that best represents the major concern of the movement in the long
sweep of its history. To preserve and perpetuate the faith and practice of
our forefathers has been the vision of the church from its beginnings until
now. What the Pentecostal Holiness Church has done to conserve and spread
the reality of the truly born-again, wholly sanctified, and fully Spirit-
filled Christian life is the story of this book.
[Description]
[Description] With all its failures and shortcomings, the Pentecostal
Holiness Church has borne faithful witness to these experiences for three
generations. In preserving the integrity of the Pentecostal Baptism with the
Holy Spirit during the days of its unpopularity, the church has played a part
in opening the door for the great outpouring of the Holy Spirit that is now
being experienced by persons in all Christian denominations. Only the
eternal histories will reveal the crucial role played by this church and itss
ister holiness and pentecostal bodies in keeping vital Chrisitanity alive and
well in this century.

[Description] In some remote churches in East Tennessee and nearby states,
Jesus' words in the sixteenth chapter of Saint Mark are taken literally: "and
they shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not
hurt them".
[Description]
[Description] Members of these churches describe themselves as Pentecostal
Holiness, autonomous groups of Christians with strong traditional religious
views and a fundamentalist approach to biblical interpretation. Their strong
faith is based largely on personal experience. Handling serpents and fire,
laying on the hands of healing, speaking in tongues, and drinking poison are
seen as acts of Christian obedience that demonstrate the power of the Holy
Spirit.
[Description]
[Description] In the past these very religious people have often been
distorted by the media as members of a "snake religion" or a "snake cult"
because of their unorthodox beliefs and practices. Thomas Burton seeks to
present a more balanced view of this generally mistunderstood group in this
indepth study of serpent handlers and their religious culture. Using both
oral history and scholarly research, Burton traces the evolution of Christian
serpent handling from its apparent beginning in East Tennessee and explores
legal and ethical issues associated with this and other unorthodox practices,
allowing participants to speak for themselves through personal interviews.
The result is both a dramatic presentation, through vivid photography, and a
thorough analytical insight into the serpent handlers; culture.

[Description] The Church of this generation must not forget the historical

They have never known the mighty revivals of the thirties. They have never
known the spirit of the Church to the degree that drove thousands to their
knees and caused such phenomenal growth as fifteen new churches in one year
in a single state. We must remain anchored to our past.

[Description]
[Description] I feel the Church of God is at the crossroads of her spiritual
existence. We have come to the crossroads of education, beautiful buildings,
and rising social status. We have made our decisions, but can we spiritually
survive those decisions? Other Christian groups ororganizations have made
similar decisions and it has led them to a spiritual downfall. A.J.
Tomlinson said, "... we (must) not fall on the same rocks that have destroyed
the power of God in many religious institutions".

[Title] The Era of A.J. Tomlinson
[Publisher] White Wing Publishing House and Press
[Pub Location] Cleveland, TN
[Date] 1984
[Description] A study of Scripture involves the study of many individuals,
most of whom were great men but some of whom were despicable characters. The
Bible included all because it necessitated incorporating all to present the
truth in its entirety. Some events of history are not pleasant, just as it
is not pleasant to read about some of the individuals in Scripture who
started so well and finished so poorly. Events, however, must be placed in
their proper perspective and given the weight deserved. One great American
theme is an individuals bringing himself from rigorous surroundings and
realizing success through his perseverance and fortitude.
[Description] Studying about impressive, determined and ingenious people
helps to encourage the same attitudes. Books may be written but it
isdifficult to exhaust a good theme. Worthy of further study is the era of
Church history which involved the period of the life of A. J. Tomlinson,
whose impact is continuing. Looking at the guiding purpose and the major
decisions reached remains significant to the present time. No structure can
exist for a long period of time without a strong foundation. Periodically,it
is necessary to examine the old foundations and make a comparison as to
whether fidelity to those major precepts are continuing to be maintained.
[Description]
[Description] A.J. Tomlinson proved himself to be a leader in several facets:
he lived a deeply spiritual life, he was an educator, a preacher, a teacher,
and an administrator. At this time in Church history there was no one in the
movement who was his equal. He became the guiding light of a young group
who, in a very real sense, did not know who they were nor where they were
going until A.J. Tomlinson, through inspiration, informed them. That many
religious denominations existed at this time in American history is an
uncontested fact. One could find almost any group who would condone his
concepts of the Bible. However, there was a deep longing within the heart of
A.J. Tomlinson to uncover the true, unencumbered Church which Jesus Christ
had set in order. During his time he looked with fervent desire for this
pure Scriptual entity, but his search was in vain. Meeting the small group
in the home of W.F. Bryant, he had come in close communication with others of
like mind. They, too, were eager to accept the complete precepts of
Scripture and be the divine Body of Christ set in order. It was not that
they wanted to start another small sect or religion, but they desired to
uncover the true Body and restore it to its original purpose and beauty.
[Description]
[Description] The work of uncovering is at once tedious and laborious, with
some failings and mistakes made along the way. Some who joined with the
group to help in the uncovering of the Body of Christ actually helped to
further litter. So, in effect, their litter had to be purged. This work of
purging would include a continuous process until the return of the Lord when
the work would be finished. At no time did A.J. Tomlinson indicate that
ultimate truth with no need for further development had been reached by the
group. Indeed, each assembly seemed to bring new issues and new problems in
need of resolution. Not only was it necessary to study and implement the
Scriptures, but it was also necessary to communicate with some who were
illiterate and uninformed on the Bible. These individuals demanded special
care and guidance.
[Description]
[Description] THE ERA OF A.J. TOMLINSON is an exciting time of discovery and
depicts what can be done with a few who are dedicated to a single purpose.
The bitter and the sweet must be taken together, but when the complete story
is finished, the dynamic leader of the Church of God comes out in an overall
conclusion of victory.
[Description]
[Description] Prepare yourself for a journey into exciting and informative
adventure with twentieth century Church leadership. Hopefully, the writer
can say with the writer of Maccabees: "If I have written well and to the
point, this is what I myself desired; but if meanly and indifferently, thisis
all I could attain to".

[Description] The story of A.J. Tomlinson is one of the most moving as an
example of devotion to God and His Church. His love for God and His Word was
demonstrated from the beginning of his Christian life. As soon as he was
saved he began his service to God by endeavoring to win souls and advancing
the Lord's cause. A number of years later he found the Church of God and he
gave his whole time and attention to this Bible institution thereafter. His
all belonged to God and he gave Him his very best under all conditions.
[Description]
[Description] As information in this book will show, A.J. Tomlinson was
always in a hurry to get more and more work done. From reading the Bible he
learned of the vast extent of the work. He believed what he read and acted
upon it. He felt a continual urge to do what he could. He was stirred to
greater efforts from day to day and he desired that those who labored with
him should be stirred as he was.
[Description]
[Description] When God wants a man to do certain work for him, he has always
been able to find him. We feel confident that A.J. Tomlinson was God's man
for these last days. His life and work proved this beyond any doubt. His
manner of doing things may not have been always conventional, but the results
of his efforts showed that God was with him.
[Description]
[Description] Even his manner of writing may be a little crude to some, but
he knew what he wanted to say and he was able to get his thoughts across to
others. From a literary standpoint some of the contents of this book would
not stand the test, but those who read it can be abundantly benefited by it
if they will be generous to errors and give attention only to the thoughts
expressed.
[Description]
[Description] One thing we know, A.J. Tomlinson loved God and believed His
Word. He did not limit the might power of God. He knew that He could do
everything and he fully believed every prophecy would be brought to pass.
Because of his deep faith in God and His Word, he possessed an extraordinary
depth of spiritual strength which made him great in the service of God and
His Church.

[Title] Like a Mighty Army - A History of the Church of God
[Edition] Revised Edition
[Publisher] Pathway Press
[Pub Location] Cleveland, TN
[Date] 1977
[Description] Writing history with a heart is something of an achievement, and
in this Historian Charles W. Conn has achieved remarkably well. In Like A
Mighty Army he has traced the history of the Chirch of God from its obscure
origins to its present place of far-reaching influence in the Christian
world. Since the turn of the century the Church has been in the vanguard of
the Pentecostal Revival, one of the most significant spiritual renewals in
Christian history.
[Description]
[Description] The Church of God began with the conviction of a number of
people in the mountains of Tennessee and North Carolina that the exisitng
denominations had become spiritually decadent and were in need of reformation
and revival. The fruit of this conviction was a fresh outpouring of the
scriptural baptism of the Holy Spirit. The historian's assignment was to
examine the record of that conviction and follow its course from itsbeginning
to the present time. The result is an absorbing account of how God gave life
and hope and growth to men of faith in this century. From its stark and
tenuous roots the Church of God has experienced ninety years of phenomenal
growth; it is in fact a phenomenon of growth, and its history is the story of
a miracle.
[Description]
[Description] To give cohesion and perspective to his comprehensive study, the
author traces the aspiration of the Pentecostal followers backward into a
renewal of The Upper Room experience and forward into an application of that
experience in modern life. Under the author's persuasive style it is seen
how the primal faith of the Church of God has been kept singularly stable and
effective through the pressures of unrelenting conflict and trial.
[Description]
[Description] We regard Like A Might Army to be a classic of historical
writing, a work of art. It is easy to imagine what persistent labors the
author poured into its research and transmission to written form. One can
easily see the exhausting hours of interviews with people with hazy memories,
of pouring over faded and fragile records, of sifting the significant from
the trivial and redundant, and of organizing the whole into a flowing,
readable account. The author's success in such an undertakingsuggests that he
was spiritually anointed for his task. Those who worked closest with him
during the research and writing hold a conviction that the author was often
guided by what writers call inspiration and preachers call anointing.

[Description] This book is the largest, and one of the most outstanding
volumes ever to be published in the ranks of the Pentecostal Holiness Church.
It contains rich treasure-house of facts concerning trends, issues and
personalities involved in the beginning and development of the Pentecostal
Holiness Church. The reader's interest will be greatly stimulated as he
follows the author's unique presentation of a religious movement that fights
its way up from obscurity to recognition.
[Description]
[Description] The author answers the question as to why various Pentecostal
and Holiness movements came into being and justifies their continued
existence. For this reason the volume will meet with wide acceptance among
the membership of all full-gospel churches, both Holiness and Pentecostal.
[Description]
[Description] He makes the heroes of faith to relive in the rather voluminous
historical data that he has carefully scanned from many source materials.
These materials, along witht the author's travels, contacts and personal
interests, add zest and authenticity to the volume.
[Description]
[Description] It comprises verbatim the thesis written by the author as apart
of the requirements for his Doctor of Theology Degree. This degree was
awarded him in 1948 by the Union Theological Seminary of Richmond, VA, where
the thesis has been placed on file. Because of its academic endorsement, it
will therefore be in demand as a reference volume in seminaries and in Bible
colleges.
[Description]
[Description] The volume will be especially appreciated by those who know and
those who would like to know about the Pentecostal Holiness Church. Those who
are members and know the church will want to become acquainted with their
organization, and those who do now know, but desire to, will enjoy learning
what is here written about it.

[Title] Anointed to Serve
[Publisher] Gospel Publishing House
[Pub Location] Springfield, Missouri
[Date] 1971
[Description] This book seeks to set forth the story of a phenomenon of the
20th century, the story of the Assemblies of God, largest of the American
Pentecostal bodies.
[Description]
[Description] From humble beginnings at Hot Springs, Ark., in 1914, the
Assemblies of God has developed into a movement of over 10,100 curches in the
United States, each of which lends support to a foreign missionary force of
many hundreds.
[Description]
[Description] In recent years there have been so many events taking place
within the Assemblies of God that the need for an updating of the story
became apparent. Dr. William W. Menzies was asked to take the assignment.
[Description]
[Description] The fundamental thesis of the book, substantiated by religious
leaders in the Pentecostal Movement and beyond, is that the Assemblies of God
represents a microcosm of the Pentecostal Movement. Therefore the updating
of the story of the denomination has far more than parochial significance.
[Description]
[Description] Anointed to Serve outlines in detail the development of the
organizational structure from its earliest beginning, and it traces the
history and development of the various departments that are needed to
facilitate the wide range of services performed by the denomination.
[Description] Published here for the first time are interesting side lights
on the lives of many of the people who have influenced the Assemblies of God.
[Description]
[Description] The author's careful analysis of the Assemblies of God,combined
with his highly readable and inspiring writing style, assures this monumental
work a prominent place with the historical literature of the Christian church
in America.

[Publisher] William B. Eerdmans Publishing Company
[Pub Location] Grand Rapids, Michigan
[Date] 1970
[Description] An interesting and important development in the recent history
of the United States is the rise of numerous holiness and pentecostal
denominations. For many years little interest was shown in this development,
and "holiness people" were seen as relics of the nation's past. Perhaps the
greatest interest has been generated by the rapid growth of the "charismatic"
movement inside the traditional denominations within the past decade.
Virtually every major denomination now has its own pentecostal element, Roman
Catholic and Protestant alike.
[Description]
[Description] The Holiness - Pentecostal Movement is an in-depth study of the
beginnings of the movement. Dr. Synan examines the literature as well as the
social relations and attitudes of the holiness - pentecostal groups. It is
not an apologie for any one position, though; rather, it is an informative
history of the movement, together with a discussion and analysis of what has
been accomplished by it.

theHoly Spirit in the twentieth century. It is the greatest revival in human
history. It has touched millions of lives, reached across denominational
barriers, restored spiritual gifts to Christian life, and permanently
reshaped Christianity.
[Description]
[Description] The pentecostal movement began humbly in a Kansas farmhouse and
a shabby Los Angeles meeting hall. It spread rapidly throughout the US,
spawning several new fast-growing denominations, and within a few decades had
taken hold in every continent. Then, in the 1960s, even pentecostal
Christians were amazed when a neo-pentecostal movement erupted in the
mainline Protestant denominations and the charismatic renewal unexpectedly
appeared in the Catholic Church.
[Description]
[Description] In the Latter Days tells the whole dramatic story of
God'spentecostal work in our day - a day of great evil and a day of great
blessing.

[Title] Pentecostals From the Inside Out
[Publisher] Victor Books - A Division of SP Publications
[Pub Location] Wheaton, Illinois
[Date] 1990
[Description] Funny that God should use a group once so derided to revitalize
his church, remarked one observer. "I guess the laugh is on us."
[Description]
[Description] From the Azusa Street Revival in turn of the century LosAngeles
to the tear-filled TV ministries of Oral and the Jimmies (Bakker and
Swaggart), Pentecostalism has mushroomed into the twentieth century's
largetst Christian movement, claiming over 300 million adherents worldwide.
Its mega ministries stand as models of church growth, and its distinctive
experiences offer a spiritual jolt that is the curiosity - and sometimes envy
- of even the most liturgical believers.
[Description]
[Description] Yet, for all its statistical success and strategic importance
to the world church, Pentecostalism remains a movement misunderstood. Tongue-
speaking, healings, and modern-day prophecy are perplexing enough. But these
are only things Pentecostal Christians do. The picture becomes even more
confusing when someone asks what Pentecostals believe.
[Description]
[Description] Pentecostals from the Inside Out addresses this confusion by
candidly discussion the men and women, the success and excesses, that have
shaped - and will continue to shape - this colorful and controvesial movement
well into the twenty-first century.

[Title] Warning! Do Not Seek For Tongues
[Publisher] World Outlook Publications
[Pub Location] Raleigh, NC
[Date] 1979
[Location] Closed Stacks
[Description] Dr. Joe E. Campbell's new book, Warning! Do Not Seek ForTongues
is in reality an expose of the Devil's counterfeit offer intended to
popularize Pentecost.
[Description]
[Description] It is an appraisal of current-day trends in the church-world
among both clergy and layment, pointing out the unadulterated Bible teachings
about the genuine Pentecostal baptism of the Holy Ghost, as opposed to the
watered-down concept advocated by those who would like to popularize
Pentecost at the expense of ignoring and soft-pedaling the old time Bible
experience of Sanctification as taught by Wesley and the Apostles before him.
It is clearly pointed out that early Pentecostals of both"early rain" and
"latter rain" outpouring of the Spirit were invariably and without exception
those who had both experienced and taught a definite experience of
Sanctification as a prerequisite to the baptism of the HolySpirit.
[Description]
[Description] For those who want the whole-truth this is their "cup of tea".
But for those who are looking for "bargain-counter religion" or a "short-cut
to salvation" they had better not take this book in their hands unless they
are willing to face the unvarnisehd truth of the never-changing old-time
gospel of Jesus Christ, and His Apostles. The "counterfeit" will never take
the place of the "real".
[Description]
[Description] Dr. Campbell, an eloquent student and writer of theology and
church history, has composed this much needed publication in his usual
skillful manner of clarity and simplicity. The three-fold message of the
individual Christian's walk is presented with a challenge calculated to
motivate the reader to a deeper spiritual experience. As the advertising
media would say today, It is "proof positive" that religious experiences
today should coincide with the expereinces of the New Testement era. The
pattern has never changed down through the centuries in spite of man's futile
attempts to modernize the old-time gospel.
[Description]
[Description] The book is chocked full of usable information for sermon-
material, as well as being a teaching-guide for both layment and clergy. It
is written in the most simple and understandable form adaptable for
instructing those of all age groups young or old.
[Description]
[Description] It should be in the library of every Pentecostal person, as
well as in the library of all those who would like to know about the genuine
Bible experience of Pentecost. It goes without saying that a copy should be
in every public library and in every seminary, high school, and college
library around the world.
[Description]
[Description] The information contained in the book is a "must" for all those
who wish to be accurately and adequately informed with relation to the recent
developments in the church-world of our time.

[Edition] Paperback
[Publisher] Radiant Books - Gospel Publishing House
[Pub Location] Springfield, MO
[Date] 1980
[Orig Date] 1949
[Description] This book is a study of the supernatural working of God in the
Church, with some rather startling conclusions. The author demonstrates that
God has never withdrawn His gifts, but intends that they should be a normal
part of the operation of His church until Jesus returns. Clearly and
persuasively the ministry of each gift is outlined, providing rich reward for
the seeker after these truths.

[Description] This authorative handbook has been used by thousands of
Charismatic or Pentecostal believers for individual study and group
discussion. It is considered by Christians in many countries as a
Pentecostal classic.
[Description]
[Description] For many years the late Donald Gee was a leading Pentecostal
preacher and writer. His pulpit and writing ministries contributed a great
deal to his own British Assemblies of God as well as the worldwide

[Edition] Paperback
[Publisher] Gospel Publishing House
[Pub Location] Springfield, MO
[Date] 1976
[Orig Date] 1974
[Description] Most letters are short-lived. They are read and discarded. But
most letters are not like two letters that the apostle Paul wrote to a 5 year
old charismatic congregation in Corinth nearly 2,000 years ago. These
inspired letters became part of the Bible and are known as 1 and 2 Corinthians.
[Description]
[Description] For years, various groups have used these letters to argue
their points of view on customs and doctrines. Many believers are caught in
the middle not knowing what to believe. That's the reason for this book, to
give a sane and responsible interpreation of the letters. In an easy to read
style, the author shows relevance of the two letters and draws conclusions
that will be of interest to every believer.

[Edition] Paperback
[Publisher] International Committee for the Propagation and Defense of
Biblical Fundamentalism
[Pub Location] Greenville, SC
[Date] 1982
[Description] Here is a book for which thoughtful Christians have waited too
long. It points out the intrinsic dangers of lip service to biblical
inerrancy, inspiration, and infallibility without sound biblical convictions
and practice in daily life. Christians who desire to honor God and obey His
Word know instinctively that there is something wrong with the pseudo-
Fundamentalist position.
[Description]
[Description] In this book Dr. Spence shows that Scriptural separation isthe
basis of doctrinal purity and essential to it. Therefore, pseudo-
Fundamentalism, which refuses to be governed by the Scriptural commands
concerning separation from compromise, unbelief, and apostasy also results in
the corruption and ultimate destruction of the purity of Scriptural doctrine.

[Description] The doctrine of sanctification and the subject of holiness is
now receiving world wide attention. It is a live wire. Almost everybody has
some notion about it, but sad to say, very few have investigated the subject
from a Scriptural stand point, so as to have the right notion. We rejoice in
the fact that there is such a great awakening on this subject. Many books and
papers are being published in its interest, campmeetings established and
multitudes of Christian workers are proclaiming this wondrous truth in every
part of the globe. The great Holiness Revival is profoundly significant and
is thought by many to be a preparation for the return of Jesus. The author
of the following chapters is a sweet-spirited,devout, successful minister of
the labors. Having been educated for the law before entering the ministry,
he handles his subject in a clear, logical manner, very much like a lawyer
preparing an important brief.

[Description] The Mark of the Beast was my first publication on the subject
of Bible prophecy. Since the first edition it has been reprinted a number of
times. I am most grateful for its public acceptance. For a number of years
I felt the need of a booklet of this kind - one that is concise, written in a
simple everyday language, something that the laity can understand.
Realizing, too, that most people follow a busy schedule, having little time
for reading material of this kind, I also felt the need of keeping it brief.
However, my main purpose for writing The Mark of the Beast was my burden for
the unsaved. I wanted to reach the unchurched people with its message. Many
of them, I knew, had no opportunity of ever hearing the subject discussed.
With this thought in mind and burden on my heart, I wrote, The Mark of the
Beast.

[Date] 1989
[Description] "Only Believe!" "I'm a thousand times bigger on the inside
than on the outside!"
[Description] Fear looks; faith jumps!" These statements were heard by
thousands of people who sat under one of the most unusual ministries of this
cetnruy; the ministry of Smith Wigglesworth. His ministry has survived
successfully for more than forty years since his death in 1947. It is of
importance to state that for a ministry to be producing eternal results this
far after its natural conclusion means that one lived a life of obedience and
spoke words of life more than opinion and views. I have spent many exciting
hours reading Smith Wigglesworth's sermons and interviewing people who knew
him or attended his gospel crusades. Many describe him with the same
adjectives, such as"authoritative, bold, compassionate, very challenging,"
calling him a "man of eternal value" who lifed a "life full of faith".

[Title] The Shape of Things to Come
[Publisher] Advocate Press
[Pub Location] Franklin Springs, GA
[Date] 1969

[Description] Twentieth century man has a keen interest in "the shape of
things to come". This interest is revealed in the fact that Jeanne Dixon,
"the prophetess of politicians," has become a famous personality in our time.
It is also manifested in our daily newspapers by the numerous columns on
astrology. Man has alwyas been interested in the future. He is ever ready
to listen to anyone who seems to have an unusual knowledge with regard to
what tomorrow will bring. The only infallible prophecies concerning the
future, however, are found in the Bible. One of the evidences that the Bible
is completely reliable is the fact that all of the events foretold in the
Scriptures have been fulfiled precisely as they were predicted in the Bible.
For this reason it is very important that those who believe the Bible know
just what it has to say with regard to the future. Bishop Joseph A. Synan,
General Superintendent of the Pentecostal Holiness Church, has been a student
of Bible prophecy for many years. The first time Bishop Synan came to our
conference to preside, I asked one of our older ministers if he had ever
heard this man preach. This reply was something like this, "I heard J. A.
Synan preach the greatest sermon on Matthew 24 that I have ever heard in my
life." He went on to explain how the author of this book dealt eloquently
and effectively with the signs of the times as they pointed to the Second
Coming of Jesus Christ. All of those who have heard this eloquent preacher
know that he is capable of proclaiming the prophetic truths of Holy Scripture
with spiritual power and scriptural accuracy.
[Description]
[Description] The Shape of Things to Come is a timely book containing
timeless truths and presented by one who has spent many years reverently
studying the doctrine of the Second Coming of Christ and the signs which will
surround this climactic event in redemptive history. Every minister, every
Sunday School teacher, every sincere student of the Word of God will profit
immeasurably by a careful reading and continued study of this volume.

[Title] Essays on Apostolic Themes - Studies in Honor of Howard M. Ervin
[Publisher] Hendrickson Publishers
[Pub Location] Peabody, Massachusetts
[Date] 1985
[Description] This collection of studies, prepared in honor of one of the
Church's distinguished teachers and pastoral servants, Dr. Howard M. Ervin,
attempts to address some of the pressing theological issues of our day.
Important matters of biblical interpretation in the evangelical and
charismatic scenes are treated by three of the contributors, including one by
the honoree himself. The role of the Holy Spirit in interpretation is
critiqued by professor Horner, while professors F.F. Bruce and J.D.G. Dunn
offer some penetrating insights into the work of the Spirit in Paul's
churches and into the nature of spiritual experience in the lives of Old
Testament believers, drawing out appropriate lessons for Christians today. We
trust further that Essays on Apostolic Themes may have something to offer to
the discipline of historical theology with five essays, ranging from
prophetic type phenomena in Irenaeus' church and charismatic motifs in
Calvin's thought to critical assessments of Lewi Pethrus and Donald Gee, who
are, within their own cultures, appraised as being dynamic figures of
leadership in the pentecostal tradition. Similarly, based on his earlier
book of the eighteenth century pioneer of pentecost, Dr. Strachan presents a
stimulating piece on the development of Edward Irving's thought. The early
reception in America of the charismatic movement is sagaciously surveyed by
Dr. Connelly and productive ideas on the mystical presence of Christ in our
Lord's supper are advanced by professor Gelpi. Essays concludes with a
contribution to the much discussed issue of church growth, wherein practical
suggestions are tabled based on the potential implied by Luke's text of the
book of Acts.

[Description] In this latest book by Rev. Noel Brooks, he brings his keen
analytical insight to bear on a highly controversial subject - divine
healing. In many of the areas examined, he could justifiably have written in
strictly negative terms. But he didn't. Instead, he has depicted the
healing ministry of the compassionate Jesus. In his graphic and scholarly
manner he helps us "see" the Stranger of Galilee ministering to the needs of
the masses of men and women He touched during His earthly ministry. But more
importantly, we behold the rays of Messiah's glory shining out toward the
spiritual and physical infirmities of lost men in a darkened world, saying:
"Let there be Light -Let there be Life."

At the insistence urge of many people this book is now coming to you. The

mind it was written in 1911, A.D., prior to World War I. We are now in the
midst of World War II, and it is our desire to get these Biblical truths to

it. It is almost entirely a prophetic book, and its truths are of great
importance today and are now an immediate reality. If these pages become
blest to the awakening of sinners and the edifying of the body of Christ, may
all the glory be ascribed to Him "who gave himself fo us, tha tHe might

[Title] Perfectionist Persuasion
[Edition] Hardback
[Publisher] The Scarecrow Press, Inc & The American Theological Library
[Pub Location] Metuchen, NJ
[Date] 1974
[Description] Born in the new industrial centers of eighteenth century
England, Methodism had its most notable impact in America on the frontier.
Methodism accommodated to its new enviroment, deserting the formal worship
Wesley preferred for the emotionalism of the frontier revival. So successful
were Methodist preachers in making converts in new areas that a rural aura
came to pervade the Amercian group's activities generally. As rural
Methodists moved into the East Coast cities and prospered, they sought summer
refuge from the temptations and heat of the city by establishing campmeetings
on the seashore and in other nearby locations where they might relax in a
religious, morally guarded atmosphere. Material prosperity brought with it
fear of losing the essential Wesleyan faith and by mid-century a sizeable
group of Eastern Methodists had launched a campaign toward their original
goal, the perfect Christian life. They believed that the essence of
Christian perfection or (holiness) was attainable sometime after conversion
in the experience of entire sanctification. In the years following the Civil
War they formed national, state and local associations which sponsored
numerous periodicals and hundreds of revivals and camp meetings and attracted
a substantial following both inside and outside the Methodist church.
Horrified by the growing formality and worldliness of urban Methodism and
bent on preserving the Wesleyan perfectionism and fervid worship of the
holiness camp meetings, by 1900 urban holiness believers were leaving
denominational churches in increasing numbers and forming independent
holiness churches true to the irrural tradition. In these country churches,
often located in the midst of cities, newcomers found a substitute family, a
religious home away from home. The estrangement and isolation holiness
people experienced presages the communication gap which exists at the present
time between the Eastern urban establishment and the common man in the
Midwest and South. Distinctive personal styles arising from sectional
differences marked, for instance, Presidents Kennedy and Johnson and to some
extent explain the treatment accorded each by the Eastern-dominated press. A
similar foundation seems to under lie the dissimilar public treatment of
Black Panthers and of young upper-class white radicals. Ostracism because of
stylistic differences attributable to sectionalism, religion and national
background has long existed in America and presents one of the great barriers
to a truly open society. The history of the National Holiness Movement
within American Methodism is the story of how one displaced group dodged this
dilemma through self-segregation and sectarianism. The story causes one to
wonder if competition between cultural styles even more than economic
differences may not be the determiner of social grouping.

[Title] Dictionary of Pentecostal and Charismatic Movements
[Publisher] Regency Reference Library
[Pub Location] Grand Rapids, Michigan
[Date] 1988
[Description] The Dictionary of Pentecostal and Charismatic Movements is
intended not only to increase the self-understanding of those inside the
Pentecostal and Charismatic
[Description] Movements, but also to introduce to the broader religious
community the inner life and thought of a twentieth century religious
phenomenon that has had a significant impact on Christianity worldwide. The
editors have sought to avoid apologetic and polemical approaches, and they
have made every effort to present a balanced overview of the many
perspectives that have grown out of a genuinely diverse set of traditions.
Included among the contributors, therefore, are classical Pentecostals,
charismatics representing a wide variety of denominational affiliations, and
those who are not participants. Opinions expressed in this volume are
intended to represent the diversity within the movements but are not
necessarily those of the editors or of the publisher.
[Description]
[Description] The work includes topical as well as biographical entries.
Articles on books of the Bible focus on areas that are of special importance
to Pentecostals and charismatics, especially the person and work of the Holy
Spirit and his furits and gifts. Articles on denominations or groups have as
a rule been restricted to those with at least two thousand members. The
Dictionary is not a comprehensive treatment of Pentecostalism in its many
forms worldwide. The vastness of these movements precludes complete coverage
in a single volume. It could be argued that much of our focus should have
been on Latin America, Africa, and Asia where at the present time the
majority of Pentecostals and charismatics are found. The editors felt,
however, that in order come to any understanding of the macrocosm, it is
necessary first to concentrate on North America and Europe, where classical
Pentecostalism and the charismatic movement originated.

[Description] Seldom has our world known a greater hunger than existed amongt
he Christians during the latter part of the nineteenth century. Both in
England and in America prayer meetings were the order of the day. Great
conventions for deepening of the spiritual life were held on both sides of
the Atlantic. Out of this fervor great holiness movements were born.
Frodsham's book With Signs Following has long been recognized as the standard
work recording the remakable way God answered the prayers and the heart
hunger of those days. Blessings bestowed during this great turn-of-the-
century revival included not only the baptism in the Holy Spirit but divine
healing as well. Christians from all denominations, men of all races, people
from all countries of the world, experienced these manifestations of God's
power. Like a sweeping fire, the faith of Pentecost encircled the globe.
For all who would know the fascinating, thrilling details of the Pentecostal
outpouring, this book presents them with authority.

[Edition] Paperback
[Publisher] Spire Books - Fleming H. Revell Company

[Date] 1970
[Description] Unbelievable... but every event in this book is absolutely
true! Classes were forgotten. Academic work came to a standstill. The campus
was invaded by another Power. God had taken over! One cold, wintry day,
students at a small Kentucky college went to their weekly chapel service.
185 hours later they emerged, changed beyond their wildest dreams. Here is
the story of this amazing campus revolution. There were no protests, no
demands, no violence. Instead, there were confessions of sin, witnessing to
the Lord, tremendous outpourings of love, and countless new commitments to
Christ. Every detail of the miraculous revival is recounted here told by eye-
witnesses to what may become the most dramatic spiritual moment of the
century - proof positive that, for One Divine Moment, the Holy Spirit walked
among us!

[Description] Originally a German work entitled Enthusiastisches
Christentium: die Pfingstbewegung in Geschichte und Geganwart, this important
work was first published in English in 1972. Although much has been changed,
it has endured as a standard reference work on the subject. Besides
containing summaries of the histories behind Pentecostalism in the United
States, in Part 1 Dr. Hollenweger also traces the roots of Pentecostalism in
Brazil, South Africa, and Europe, noting important persons, places and
events. In Part 2 he examines the belief and practice of Pentecostalism
including the Pentecostal understanding of Scripture,Christology, healing and
Spirit baptism. He further explores the ethics of Pentecostal groups as well
as their eschatology. A valuable Appendix provides the declarations of faith
of nine Pentecostal denominations.

[Description] The contemporary Pentecostal movement has gained the attention
of the world. The spiritual position held by Pentecostals is of great
interest to Christians of ever persuasion and in every part of the world.
This book provides many of the answers that men may ask. It is a well
reasoned statement by a veteran Pentecostal believer, who dares to look
honestly at the movement and its beliefs. Warm in its presentation and
incisive in its style, the book is both defense and analysis of Pentecostal
beliefs. The more recent Charismatic Renewal (those with thePentecostal
experience in traditionally known Pentecostal churches) are an additional
phenomenon of the Pentecostal Charismatic revival. Charismatics will find
this book to be exceptionally helpful in the articulation of spiritual beliefs.

[Description] The final chapter to The Winds of God closes in the year 1914,
thus much of the life of Howard A. Goss remains untold. However, this mighty
warrior of God continued to contribute greatly to the cause of Christ until
his death on July 13, 1964. As mentioned in the closing chapter, Brother
Goss was elected Secretary of the convention called in 1914 to organize the
Pentecostal movement. From this meeting emerged the Assemblies of God. In
1924 Brother Goss was instrumental in organizing the Pentecostal Ministerial
Alliance, and became its first General Secretary. In 1939 he was elected
General Superintendent of the Pentecostal Church Incorporated. In 1945, when
this group joined forces with the Pentecostal Assemblies of Jesus Christ to
form the United Pentecostal Church, Brother Goss was elected to serve as the
first General Superintendent. He served in this capacity until 1951.
Following this, Brother Goss spent the final thirteen years o fhis life as a
Bible teacher, spiritual advisor, and pastor. Though past eighty at the time
of his death, he remained active in the work of God up until the end.

[Description] The sermons in this booklet on the Great Commission, which is
the very heartbeat of the Gospel, were preached at the Sixteenth General
Conference of the Pentecostal Holiness Church. The speakers in each of these
services were at their superlative best. God honored the preaching of His
Word by the power of His spirit in a mighty move of God in the services.
Those in attendance were so blessed by the messages that they requested the
sermons be put in print. It is our fervent desire and the prayer of our
heart that God will stir the souls of those who read these sermons to fulfill
the Great Commission.

[Description] For many years I have been importuned to write a book about
China, but the lack of incentive, and the fact that most of the material had
been acquired at Government expense, deprived the general public of a good
many entertaining ancedotes. During the War, I was ordered to produce a
handbook on the country, but an attack of sciatica, combined with a more
useful employment of my services, brought about the abandonment of this
enterprise. The series of articles, from which the present volume is
compiled, owe their inception to a request by my collaborator in the
Admiralty handbook for information on the religious tenets of the Colony,
but, as Scientific data, as required by the British Museum, would hardly
appeal to the readers of a Sunday paper, I recast them in more popular style.
The information is by no means original as there are not enough festivals to
form subject matter for a weekly article, and I have drawn heavily on the
researches of others, hitherto without adequate acknowledgement, to fill the
gaps. I owe a deep debt to my late friends Juliet Bredon, for the Moon Year,
and to Sir Reginald Johnston for his scholarly books on China. I am also
under obligations to Monsieur G. Bouillard, the enterprising cartographer,
for his articles on the Peking Festivals, published in La Chine, in 1922-23.
I recommend Mr. C.A.S.Williams' Outlines of Chinese Symoblism to all students
of Chinese Mythology. For local information Mr. Feng York-man has
interviewed a host of people from necromancers to Temple guardians in search
of local colour, and Miss Chu En-pao has been invaluable for translations, and
everything connected with the Chinese characters. Finally without the
friendship of the Boat People the articles would have been short of much of
their originality. A wart-time connection with the House brought me into
their circle almost as a member of the family, and there is little in their
lives with which I am not acquainted. I have attended all their festivals as
a member of the junk, even if the "Old Man" had to go by tram to make a
place. I have seen their Weddings and Thanksgiving Services, their Festivals
andJunketings - in fact, everything but a Funeral, though, if I demanded one,
I have no doubt they would be ready to oblige. These humble folk possess all
the innate good manners of the vanished Empire, and are friends in the best
sense of the word. They stand by the Government in fair weather or foul, and
have no aspirations but to earn an honest living.

[Description] It is a unique work which presents a case study on Christianity
and its impact on world culture. The author discusses and defines the impact
of the Christian Gospel, ethics, and life style - and of the one who
introduces them - as he confronts his own or foreign cultures. Case studies
abound in the book, and the reader or student will be introduced to
evaluations of Christian principles as he confronts moral and ethical changes
in cultures, cultural clashes, the effect of the Gospel on culture,
"Christian cultures," and other pertinent topics. Pastors, future pastors,
missionaries, Christian educators -any who will find themselves in a constant
and cultural contact with the world as "ambassadors of Christ" - will find
this book invaluable. It will also serve as a useful text in sociology,
anthropology, or psychology classes. Christianity Confronts Culture is a
giant step on the road to an effective Christian world view and intelligent
and productive ministry.

concepts existing up to the first century of our era, and to compare these
concepts with apocalyptic writings, and particularly with the Apocalypse of
John.

[Description] This book was written on behalf of many saints desiring to know
the writer's attitude toward the remarkable spiritual manifestation, which,
for many months, from Los Angeles, CA, as its centre, has been claiming
public attention (Baptism in the Holy Spirit). In response to this desire a
series of papers was prepared, when attention was drawn to the following
article from the pen of Rev. J. Hudson Ballard. It so covered every point
which the Holy Spirit had already made clear to the author that by Ballard's
permission, his intrepretation is used as the books' opening chapter. To the
minutest detail it agrees with the author's own convictions and position.

[Description] Dr. Montgomery in this book presents a gripping study of
the"things which are, and the things which shall be hereafter." (Revelation 1:
19) This is a faith-building dissertation which demonstrates that "Though
the wrong be oft so strong, God is the Ruler yet!" All the predictions in
this book are real. All of them are Scriptural. All of them are sure to
come to pass, for they are true, just as true as when the book was first
published. What is more to the point, they are just as sure as when the
Bible first foretold them - some of them as much as three thousand years ago.
